Force Sync to Quit

I am syncing my iPad to my MacBook Pro. Something didn't go right--the sync won't stop. It acts like the backup was complete but Transferring Purchases won't stop. I have clicked "cancel" but the rotating arrows endlessly continue even though the window says it's canceling the sync.

How do I force the end of this without messing up data or something else bad?

I followed your instructions and then attempted to sync again. It got caught up on Step 7 of 7 saying it was "waiting for items to copy", again endlessly circling. The strangest message along the way was the following:

User uploaded file

I then was able to sync it to a different computer (my 2012 MBA). So it must have something to do with the 2009 MBP. Strangely, I could then sync my iPhone 6 Plus to the MBP, no problem.

I don't know what to think, other than I might need to replace my 7-year old MBP.

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much for you guidance.

It would appear that the process is stuck somehow

You have to Force Quit iTunes - that will stop the sync

Since the iPad is fine

Once iTunes quits

Reboot the MBP

Do a forced restart - on iPad - After shutting down all open apps using the app switcher - invoked by quick double press of the home button and swiping up on each app till it flies off the screen.

Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons down together till you see  logo - then release and allow normal boot up

Then attempt the sync again

Let us know if you get any error messages

Ok - sorry - should have asked upfront

The current version of iTunes is 12.3.3

One needs Mac OS 10.8.5 or above to handle that IOW Mountain Lion

If your OS is older than that - then yep - you are somewhat in a bind as it can only be updated so much

But the 2009 Mac should be able to be upgraded to Mountain Lion or even Mavericks
