I have an iPad Mini 128 GB with iOS 9.3.1. I recently activated iCloudDrive for iBooks because I thought it might be neat to have the books just sync across all my devices (the iPad, iPhone6 plus a MacBookPro with ElCapitan 10.11.4) instead of having to manually sinc them via USB sync all the time.
Most of the books I read are NOT books purchased via the Apple Store but .epubs that I'd just add manually but that didn't seem to be a problem, everything seemed to be working smoothly at first: I would add an epub to iBooks on one of the devices and it would be available on the other two.
But today I noticed that I am unable to open about 90% of my iBooks on my iPad. They show up as not downloaded from the cloud yet (with that little cloud icon and the arrow pointing down). I try to download them and they actually seemt to download.
However once I try to open them I always get the message "Cannot install 'name of book'. There is not enough available storage to install this book. You can manage your storage in Settings".
Now I know this cannot be. I have about 35 GB free storage space on my iPad hardrive. And from my 5 GB total Storage in iCloud I'm not even using up 1 GB (I'm ONLY using it for iBooks).
And the funny thing is, if I add a NEW book on one of the other devices, I can download and open THAT one on the iPad just fine. So it really can't be an actual storage space problem.
I've tried rebooting my iPad but to no avail. I've tried removing all the downloads from my iPad and then re-downloading them from the cloud, but that didn't help either, I still get the same error message for the books that wouldn't open before.
To make matters worse, I've only just now realised that apparently activating iCloud drive actually DELETED all the files from my local harddrive and MOVED them to the cloud? And deactivating iCloud drive for iBooks again would just REMOVE all my files for good?
Is there any way to fix this? Or better yet, is there any way I can just get my files back to my local harddrive to go back to manual usb syncing?
