Phone disabled due to forgotten password; itunes not working what can i do?

The only way to restore a passcode is to follow the instructions here > Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

Make sure iTunes is up to date prior to trying to reset the passcode.

Mac

1. Open iTunes.
2. From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose iTunes > Check for Updates.
3. Follow the prompts to install the latest version.

Windows

1. Open iTunes.
2. If the menu bar isn't showing, hold down the Control and B keys to show it. Learn more about the iTunes for Windows menu bar.
3. From the menu bar, choose Help > Check for Updates.
4. Follow the prompts to install the latest version.
