Q: Compressor is Damaged and can't be opened. Delete "Compressor" and download it again from the App Store.

Dear Apple Support communities,

As what the post entails, I have tried restarting, fixed permissions and redownloading Compressor twice, checked to make sure that Security And Privacy Settings is set to accept/run apps from Anywhere. And 1GB of used bandwidth all for nothing...

I tried to copied and pasted the error / crash details here...but I got "The message contains invalid characters." error ...so there goes a chunk of hope for anyone able to troubleshoot this

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Regards,

Cascad85.

Try this, download the free app "FCS Remover" from Digital Rebellion (dot com) and use that to remove Compressor.  Moving the app to the trash won't remove its system files.  One of those may be damaged.  Reboot your Mac, then reinstall from the App Store.

The only other thing I'd do is get a copy if Disk Warrior and use it to repair the Directory on all connected drives, especially the system drive.

BTW, what is your system drive capacity, and how much free space is on it?

    Hi BenB,

Thank  you for such a quick response!

Unfortunately :*( no go.  Still crashes. I have tried FCS remover and ensure that Compressor 4 (and the old legacy + qmaster) were selected. Then restarted and redownloaded Compressor

I only have had less than 5gb of working space in recent weeks on a seagate hybrid...

Is that your boot drive? If it is, you should move some files off of it to free up at least 10% of the total capacity.

What version of OS X are you running?

    Heads up,

I think I've found a solution for anyone still also having the same problems.

I installed the updates in particular the Thunderbolt Firmware 1.2, Security Update 2016-002, and as I suspect as related - the Pro Video Formats (2.0.4) and voila Compressor is running happily again without crashes!

The only issue now however is that I seem to have lost my custom settings, but no biggie as there were only a few and I will recreate based on memory.

Thank you to all who chime in for the support. If anyone still having problems with Compressor refusing to open up after having installed the above updates then please leave further replies here..

Seriously, if you only have 5GB free on a hard drive, it is full, and I assure you, that you will have continued problems.  Watch and see.
