Q: Problem with iMac Start Up - Flashing File and No Sound
Hello.
I was using my mid-2007 iMac earlier today, when it started to slow, with the colour wheel appearing whenever I tried to click on something.
I left it alone for a few seconds, thinking it just needed a little time, before the screen went completely white. I turned the computer off at the plug, tried restarting it, but after several attempts to turn it back on, all I get is a white screen and a flashing file with a question mark on it.
I have tried the command+R tip, but it doesn't work, and there's also no start up sound, which is, or so I've read, when you're supposed to press those keys.
I believe the iMac was updated to OS X El Capitan (10.11), if not it was Yosemite, but I'm not sure which level of the update I was on. I can't access the computer to tell you any other details, but I'm sure it had a memory of 4GB, as I upgraded the memory myself.
Thank you for any help you can give me.
iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

If it's the HDD, there's nothing you can do but either replace it or work from an external drive with a clone on it. If you have one try booting from it and run Apple Hardware Test on the internal.
