Safari ignores every other pinch to zoom now.

Hi all.

Safari recently started ignoring every other pinch to zoom in or out. So your first attempt to zoom in will be ignored, but the second will succeed. Same goes for zooming out.

This mode doesn't start right off the bat; often you find that Safari has ignored your pinch to zoom, but on the second attempt it works and then your next attempt to zoom out might work. But eventually you can get it into this cadence where every other zoom attempt will fail.

Anyone notice this? I'm thinking it happened with the last OS update.

If you are using Mac OS Sierra :

Please open system preferences > accessibility .select zoom , click on drop down arrows > select picture in picture .

Now click on options and move the slider towards right hand side .a small window will appear , this application is now activated .

Open your track pad gestures > Zoom in or out: Select this option to pinch two fingers closed to zoom in, or pinch two fingers open to zoom out.

Please stop posting irrelevant material. Did you watch the video? THIS IS ALREADY ENABLED BY DEFAULT.

If pinch-to-zoom weren't enabled, it would NEVER work. As the title of this post tells you, it DOES work HALF the time. That's the entire complaint.

I bought a Macbook pro 13 (2015) 5 days ago and I'm having this problem only in Safari!Thank god it's not a hardware issue though...My thoughts are that it might be this way for sensitivity reasons...It's harder to zoom by accident this way...Or it's just a bug...I don't know...

Yes! Finally I found a thread where this is being discussed. I can't believe more people aren't aware of this, it's ridiculous.

Safari is so much smoother and battery conservative than chrome on Mac, but this is an absolute deal breaker in usability.

Any solution to this yet?

For me, Safari and everything else ignored every pinch-to-zoom following the update to 10.12.6. I don't know why this worked, but it did for me: I first opened the Trackpad preference panel and tried deselecting and then re-selecting the "Zoom in or out" option. That did nothing. Then I opened the Accessibility preference panel and went to the "Zoom" tab. I didn't change anything, but when I went back to Safari/Luminar/Photos, pinch-to-zoom worked again. Makes no sense to me, but it's working (for now, anyway).

Or, if you're a developer, file a Radar on it. I did, using "Safari ignores every other pinch to zoom" as the title.

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings then restart the device then try pinch to zoom.

That restores zoom pinch and zoom to factory settings.

Thanks, but... that doesn't exist.

We're in the "Mac OS & System Software" forum, guys. That means this is Safari on Mac OS, not mobile devices.

And it's not a matter of changing settings anyway. I seriously doubt there's a setting that says, "Ignore every other pinch to zoom."

I'm having the same issue too. Safari 10.0.2 on MacOS 10.12.2.

I actually reported it earlier today using that link. I referenced this discussion thread since it includes your video of the bug in action. Hopefully this can be fixed soon!
