Yyou can use FaceTime without being connected to anyone.

And no one is watching you on the internet unless you let them.

You have not understand my question. I say that my iMac' screen is a camera made in Switzerland and that my Apple computer is not made in USA but made in China. Also, why do Apple insert a webcam on the to of the screen of the iMac ? If I want a webcam, I will buy a webcam. Regards !

I'm pretty sure Rysz understood your question. You can launch the FaceTime app and see yourself without connecting to anyone. If you don't connect to anyone, no one can see you. The camera is a camera. It's only a webcam if you use it to connect to the internet. If you're somehow afraid that someone is watching you, I suggest you run a program such as Malwarebytes to look for malware. Meanwhile, put a piece of electricians' tape over the lens.  Where the camera and computer were made is irrelevant to this process.

I think everyone understood your original question. What is not easy to understand is your next post quoted above.

    Hi,

I have a 2006 MacBook Pro that has an Internal camera.

Back them they were called iSight Cameras and iChat was the App it was more aimed at (Messages and FaceTime were not even about back then)

This is my iMac from 2011 that shows the USB devices, both Internal and External  of which the FaceTime HD camera is one.

    Screen Shot 2016-05-09 at 20.28.28.png

An Internal Camera has long been a part of the Mac's equipment as Standard.

FaceTime is one app that can use it.

Open the FaceTime App does allow you to see the camera view.

Messages can also do it via the Preferences

    Screen Shot 2016-05-09 at 20.34.52.png

Preview can't use the Camera but several apps can take Pictures.

Contacts can change the Pic you use and has access to the Camera.

So can the System Preferences > Users And Groups > Your account

    Screen Shot 2016-05-09 at 20.38.48.png

Previously if you used Yahoo for Mac (pre Yosemite) you could broadcast your Video pic.

Joining an audio chat with a Buddy would simulate a Video Chat.

Yahoo for Mac no longer works in Yosemite and El Capitan.

Of course iMovie can use the camera.

Little Snitch is a firewall type app that will tell you each and every connection to and from your Mac if you set it up to do that.

For Instance I have it set to allow Messages connections when Logging in

    Screen Shot 2016-05-09 at 20.47.40.png

It asks me for all Video and Audio Chats (over the AIM and Jabber services) whether I want to allow them. Same with File Transfers.

    Screen Shot 2016-04-30 at 21.55.17.png

    And

    Screen Shot 2016-04-30 at 21.54.43.png

Of course this does use up resources and can slow the Mac in terms of your physical input needed constantly during connection moments.

being over cautious can make a browser virtually unusable.

The Mac has supported USB 2 Video camera that support USB Video Class (UVC)

When these first came out they were aimed at Vista and were often sold as "Vista Complaint".

The Messages app only uses a square looking pic that is 640 X 480 pixels  (0.3Megapixels) that can be streamed at up to 30 frames a sec if you have enough processor for it.

It will also do it is a 4 way conversation if you want.

FaceTime make use of the HD layout so that you can have Portrait like most people use their iPhones or Landscape.

It is fair to say though that whether the Camera is the internal one of your spend more on an external one the OS does not offer the same range of features as quoted for  Windows computer.

iGlasses can add some of those http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/

Having chosen a Computer with an internal camera it does seem pointless buying another.

    Then cover it with tape.

My company is *extremely* security conscious. But they have no problem with the on-board cameras.

Thank you to all ! Once upon a time, I brought my iMac to a reseller because I could not install OS X in the computer. A few days later, the reseller told me that everything was alright and he told me too that he changed the... thing in plastic I think that give me the possibility to have colours on the screen, to watch movies, to listen to iTunes music, to navigate on Internet... Apple iMacs are very thin and I think it is some kind of plastic full of squares that gives me the possibility to watch anything and to use OS X and all applications. I was wandering once that maybe this kind of plastic full of pixels has two functions. One function is to give me the possibility to watch what I am doing and the other possibility is for someone else the possibility to watch me scratching my nose without using the camera on the top of the screen. This would mean to that maybe my computer has been modified and maybe with a separate WI-FI integrated in the computer, someone can receive a motion picture of me scratching my nose. I would not be able to detect the integrated WI-FI because it is not related to OS X system. My question is : Does this technology, the plastic pixels emitting and receiving images exist ? I will go to a genius bar when possible. Do you know that in my country, there is only four Apple Centers ? I am a bit paranoiac, sorry to all about this but I see corruption everywhere in my country. After many years fighting against twisted mind psychiatrists and "peace" justice, I really feel living like the book novel "1984". I will go to a genius bar and I will know. Thank you all for your interest and services !

There is obviously a language issue here. "Plastic full of squares" makes no sense in English.

And, yes, you're most likely being paranoid.

    Hello

I think you should stop scratching your nose, it's not very attractive.

but I do like the shirt you are wearing, good choice.
