Difficulty with iCloud verificiation over home wifi

I'm having a very confusing issue with my daughter's iTouch6 and my other daughter's iPhone5s when they are on our home wifi network. Both machines can't send or receive images on iMessage and both have verification errors when logging into iCloud. Other uses of wifi seem to work ok (regular text-only messages, using Safari, etc.). All functionality is fine on my wife's iPhone6 Plus and my iPhone6 using the same wifi network. I've tried resetting network settings. I've tried restoring the iTouch as a fresh machine. I've tried a few other solutions found online to no avail. The problems persist so long as they are on the home network. As soon as I tether them to my iPhone and use cell connection (not wifi) they work fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

How about other WiFi - school / cafe? Do the devices work on those to send iMessage ?

Yes. Works fine on other wifi networks and on cellular. I would think its an issue with my home wifi, but my other iOS devices work fine on it.

An option to try

Back up one of the devices to iTunes

Restore as NEW - using iTunes

See if the issue resolves

If it does restore backup

It may be some corruption with the WiFi and the cloud authentication like you pointed out

Not sure how to get into the weeds of that and ferret out and correct it

So the somewhat of a hammer approach - given that other iOS devices work well - seeing the iOS device as new should also

Tried it already. Set it up as a new iTouch. Still didn't work on home wifi. Worked fine on other wifi networks and cellular (via a tether to my iPhone).

If it was just one device I'd suspect something with that device, but its two of them. Both have issues connecting/verifying to iCloud, both have issues texting images.

Have you reset (powered down and then powered on) your WiFi router? Keep the power off for at least 45 seconds.

Time Warner is the ISP and I just got a new Asus router. Will try re-setting it now.

Just unplugged the router, waited for a minute and replugged it in. No change in the issues on those 2 devices. All other devices on the network working fine (iphones, ipads, computers, appleTVs, etc).

I am thoroughly stumped on this one.

On page 38 is a method to monitor the QoS packets that go through

See if there is a difference in the QoS traffic on the affected devices

Also make sure port 80 on the router is open

TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products - Apple Support

I have this same issue. I have tried everything from restoring my iPhone 6s to restarting the router. Right now I have the wifi off on the phone and everything is fine. The moment I turn it on and it asks for the iCloud sign in, it can't be verified. I have Verizon and their Quantum Router.

Was the issue present with the previous router? Is the new router the same model as the old one?

See Using FaceTime and iMessage behind a firewall - Apple Support in case anything there or the articles linked from it rings a bell. In general most domestic routers will allow all connections initiated from inside the network, but perhaps yours needs some additional firewall rules.
