Memory upgrades from ... tps://eshop.macsales.com

Good morning from the Dolomites in North italy!

Status...

I have a mid 2010 Macbook pro .. 7.1 ... I recently upgraded to El Capitan .. and the machine is running great .. but I have lost old emails in the email system .. (but I know where they are .. so its not so bad)

My question....

I am a long way from any Apple store ... I have 4 gig of memory .. which was the max in 2010 .. "eshop.Macsales.com" have upgrades .... to 6, 8, or even 16 gig .. !! (I favour 8 for about $50 Us ) ... Does anyone have experience with this company and is it a good thing to do??

Thanks! .. Andine.

Thank you so much ! Nothing like some assurance!

Phoning has problems .. because of the time change .. I'm on the opposite side of the planet!

I can, and will, buy it on the net ... no problem there.

My next question concerns the battery .. It has had 60 cycles and the system says "Check battery" .. I examined the battery .. and its a little fat .. but runs OK and @ 20 C .. Charge has gone down to 3972 ... from 5770 .. I surmise that there is not that much wrong with it yet, and that the warning is just a standard system warning. I normally run on the power supply all the time.

I have to check if Customs Italy will allow a battery shipment to come in .. You never know with these people!

Thanks again !!

Andine.

Not sure if a source for OWC and macsales related parts in Europe will be

of some assistance; there are two I've found, one maybe is Netherlands(?)

• OWCshop: OWS reseller shop for EU:

http://owcshop.eu/catalog/

• MacUpgrade OWC - NewerTech shop:

http://macupgrade.eu/catalog/

Both appear to offer similar items to the European community of Mac user.

So maybe they'll have something nearer to consider? See information at

the main OWC http://macsales.com site, as they have videos etc and a

contact email that could get you a helpful person, too.

There may be an authorized independent Apple reseller &/or service pro

in the region where you are; sometimes there may be a link to locate here:

• Apple - Find Locations - Country Selector:

https://locate.apple.com/country

Italy:

https://locate.apple.com/it/en

The second one may allow you to choose a country or region, city, etc.

A map can be generated with any providers, to include sales, service, etc.

In any event...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

Thanks Luis!

Sounds like good advice!

When you say I should "check the battery" Whats to check? It still works and does not leak anywhere.

I will check the Italian customs and see if I can get one in.

My nearest Apple shop is in Bolzano ... this is the Austrian side of Italy ..

I rang them a few weeks ago ... " Bring the machine in to our shop and leave it here .. come back in a week .. " ... and he hung up ..!!

He was about as pleasant as a Funnel Web spider!!

That sort of service does not cut it with me .. I am used to better things. I was NOT impressed!

Scrub them off the list!!

If it comes in the post, then it does not matter to me if it comes from Europe or the USA ... makes no difference at all.

...

And thank you K Shaffer ( Ken??)

Nice of you to do some research .. I will have a look see, and how the prices compare.

Years ago I was a computer tech! .. Mainframes and then the advent of the 286 and the 486 .. There my experience ends! Ha Ha!

In 1968 I worked at Honeysuckle Creek tracking station near Canberra as a Telemetry recordist .. I was there for Apollo 8, 9, 10, & 11 !!

Owsthatmate??

I recon I can handle the memory upgrade and the battery change.

I am happy to order the items from Mac Sales .. As you gentlemen recommend! .. As you say there are instruction videos!

Best regards .. Andine.

Ok ! Worried that Italian customs will not pass a lithium battery .. Hard to find out ..

Did a bit of looking and found that there is a re-seller in Italy who can supply exactly the same gear !!

http://www.buydifferent.it/prodotti/batterie-mac/batteria-macbook-85.html

Its a bit more extensive for each product, but the transport fee is only 10 euro .. so I'm good to go!

Problem solved ..

Thanks and best regards to all!

Andine.
