Library startup sym auto protect has not been started

When I turn on my MacBook Pro a message pops up that says Library/Startup/SymAutoProtect has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings. I believe that this is making my computer run very very slowly and I cannot find an answer to this exact problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2012

Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

I understand you're getting a message that you have a startup item that has improper security settings. To help get this issue resolved I suggest you follow through the steps in the link below.

Mac OS X v10.6 or later: "Insecure Startup Items folder" message appears after logging in

SymAutoProtect is part of Norton Antivirus. I suggest you uninstall Norton using the uninstall procedure from Symantec. It is a worthless scam on your Mac. It offers no additional protection. All it does is cause problems.

Could you tell us what is the name and the version of Norton program you are using? Did you recently make any changes to its settings?
