There is nothing comparable to what AppleWorks provided. iStudio Publisher cannot import document formats from other DTP applications, or word processing documents from Apple Pages, or Microsoft Word. You get Rich Text content into this application via copy/paste. It does not export to Word formats, but can export to RTF. It cannot export directly to images, and requires you to export to PDF and then open that PDF in Preview to export to image formats.

You can read more in their Frequently Asked Questions page. I don't use this application, though it may have a strong DTP capability if import/export factors are not a concern. There is a 30-day trial.

You might want to consider Swift Publisher 4 in the OS X App Store. It too has a free trial available.

I would make a list of must have DTP features, and those that would be nice to have. A list of import and export document/image support can be important to your workflow and productivity. You may not have a full list of these without deeper investigation with the individual trial applications.
