Question

How to configure VPN settings from Windows 10.

Does anyone know how to configure VPN settings from Windows 10 to access my OSX Server VPN? Do I need special software or app? I have a domain name setup with DNS.

Is your Mac VPN server behind a NAT type router?

This is know to have caused problems with previous versions of Windows and in fact Apple have the following article specifically about this and how to adjust setting on Windows to resolve it.

Unfortunately this article has not been updated to include instructions for Windows 10. I did find the following article which seems to be the same problem you are having.

The above Microsoft article while not specific to Windows 10 also has the same advice as the Apple article. I also found this http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/l2tp-regi stry-change-to-work-with-nat-t-not/f864b… which again seems to suggest the same registry change for Windows with comments suggesting this does work for Windows 10.

If you are not running behind a NAT router then the issue must be different.

Thanks for this good info. I'm a little leery about RegEdit yet. I've got a brand new Microsoft Surface Book Pro Windows 10 Pro Enterprise Edition. I visited a Microsoft Store and talked with network people at Answer Desk (their version of Genius Bar I guess). The only selection I saw in VPN setup was Windows built in. They answered me that since it was a Apple VPN Server it might need secondary software, maybe CISCO to build a separate connection. I'm hoping that someone in these communities has set one up on a brand new Windows 10. Maybe encountered the same roadblocks.

Again thanks for the info on NAT especially since I will be using Synology also setting up surveillance software.

I really prefer Apple environment however in my line of work have to make both like each other.

The Apple VPN server only support PPTP and L2TP. As far as I am aware Windows does not include a Cisco IPSec VPN client but does include an L2TP client.

You would therefore use the L2TP client in Windows but need to enable the NAT support as per the articles I previously listed.
