The kernel panic and resulting messages may be caused by either hardware

or software issues; some users of those iMac models may also experience a

few graphic card problems that would generate display effects and reports.

One of the causes of a kernel panic, may be due to the use of incorrect spec

or lower quality memory chips, as the effect can happen at some time after an

upgrade where RAM chip capacity had been increased. Not all similar spec

memory chips are equal and some fail after awhile when of lesser quality.

About kernel panics: each topic link below covers the subject, in different ways.

These can help understand, and troubleshoot, the cause of kernel panics.

• Resolving Kernel Panics - the X Lab:

http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

• Technical Note TN2063: Understanding and Debugging Kernel Panics:

https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/technotes/tn2063/_index.html

{This technote ^ addresses kernel panics: what they

are & how to debug the code that caused the panic.}

About memory, total RAM capacities, specs, in iMac (24-inch early 2008)

Maximum Memory 6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)

Memory Slots 2 - 200-pin PC2-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM

{The 6 GB total is achieved by use of one 4 - GB chip and one 2 - GB chip}

Crucial & OWC Macsales are two recommended reputable sources of RAM.

• Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

this may be helpful to start in a reduced system and to test the computer

Hopefully you can have a good discussion with your iMac, perhaps during a

Safe boot interval, and try to sort its issues out. I talk to my older ones a bit

yet seldom ever raise my voice or scold them.

In any event...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

PS:

If you mis-identified your 24-inch iMac as an Early-2008 model, when it really

was a Mid-2007 -- the memory chips as indicated in your panic report would

be correct at 667MHz, while the later model uses 800MHz chip memory...

• iMac (24-inch Mid-2007) uses:

Maximum Memory 6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)

Memory Slots 2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM

These details won't necessarily affect how to read and decipher the Panics.

Thought I should get back to you, on this because I happened to re-read your

report and noted the discrepancy in the RAM speed; relating to build model.

{A friend had one of these (2008, Early) and it had issues that the 'geek guys'

couldn't fix; sadly there was no Apple store & they sold her in-store warranty.}

Your computer is probably too old for a Genius to want to check it, see an AASP.

Not sure what a diagnostic test would cost at an Authorized Apple Service Provider

though it may be worth some attempt to see if something simple is causing the issue.

So, if your iMac really is a 2008 model, the memory chips are a question at 667Mhz.

Good luck in this matter! 🙂
