USB Microphone Not working on MBP Retina 13 with 10.11.4

Here's my system

MBP 13" Retina, Early 2015

8GB RAM / 250 SSD

System 10.11.4

I recently bought an Audio-Technica ATR2100. It's a USB mic with a headphone jack.

The mic is plug-n-play, no drivers. It will record normally from anywhere between 8 and 30 seconds then it stops in QuickTime Player.

In Garageband it's especially bad. Sometimes it won't even record or register input. If I unplug it and plug it back, it'll sometimes work. But then I'll record on a channel for no more than 10 seconds and it'll stop recording and just do a short 1/3 of a second loop of a sound.

Here's what I've tried to troubleshoot

The mic works just fine in the same apps on other machines in my house. I have tested it on an Air running Yosemite and a 27" iMac running El Capitan.

I reinstalled El Capitan and restored the machine from a backup
