My MacBookPro does not recognize any usb connection

I am experiencing difficulty in downloading my camera shots via any of the two USB ports, using either SD/MMC/RC USB 2.0 or Lexar USB 3.0 reader. Both used to work. Either do not show up on my Utilities scren either. Please advise.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

What do you mean by "Utilities" in "do not show up on my Utilities screen either"?

What is "SD/MMC/RC USB 2.0"?

Do you still have 10.7.5?

- Does it show in Disk Utility?

- Does it show in System Profiler under USB? You should see the chipset in the card reader as well as the SD card itself
