Q: How can I save photos from icloud to my external harddrive?

Hello,

I have just returned from travelling abroad and have this far saved all photos from our trip to icloud from both our iPhone 4s's and iPad Air. I'm wanting to take all the photos from iCloud and save permanently on my external harddrive so I can then delete all photos off our devices to clear space. How is this possible, what is the best way to do this??

kind regards, Geoff

ON your computer open the webpage    www.icloud.com,  sign in with your Apple ID. Then launch the Photos.app on that page.  Now select photos and use the download button to download them to your computer. Save them to your external drive.

    Hello,

Thank you for the instructions, I did that but the problem is that the file downloaded are in 100-300KB not MB so I"m afraid it's not the original full resolution.

Also is there a way to download original size of photos and videos when you just plug iphone 6 to mac air? If so please advise.

    Thank you very much.

When I click the download button, it is downloading the photos at the full pixel size.

Are you using the download button on the iCloud page or simply dragging ad dropping from the window?  You need to use the download button in the iCloud interface, not the download button of your browser .

You can only import the original photos from your iPhone by connecting to a USB port, as long as you are not using iCloud Photo Library.

If you are using iCloud Photo Library the originals are in iCloud and not on your iPhone.  You will only see random working copies, when you connect the iPhone to a USB port.

I'm using the download button you had linked (cloud with down arrow).  What size would original photos be? in KB? MB?

Which camera took the photos? And how did you save them to your iPhone?

it will depend on the pixel size of the original photos and the amount of detail in the photos.

My iPhone 5s photos with 8 megapixel are ranging in the size between 1.5 MB and 4 MB, and the panoramic shot have roughly 4MB to 10 MB.

Use "Share > Mail" to mail one of the photos to yourself to compare the sizes. Check, that the photo will be mailed at the original size.

My iPhone 6 took all the photos, so it's automatically saved on my iPhone.  So about 1.3MB sounds right?  So can I just use "iPhoto library" on my mac which I clicked on share with iclouds just now and somehow it's downloading 500 wish of my photos and more as I type this.

    Are these originals? 1.3MB ish?
