True, but if you do fix it yourself you void your warranty if any, and you also forgo any future support from Apple, including Apple's half-price replacement offer for phones that are damaged or fail out of warranty.
Rather than "think" it's the charging port, why don't you actually diagnose the problem before you try to fix it?

Jul 3, 2016 1:00 PM in response to CPhillips84by jdf66r,I had this exact same problem last week. Originally, I was thinking that maybe the car charger I was using cooked something in the lightning cable. It would charge just fine in my car and when plugged into my MacBook Air but not when I would use the wall charger. The cord was in excellent shape, not frayed at all and the pins all appeared to be in good shape. After reading several posts about what might be the problem on a few sites, I thought maybe there was something in the circuitry of the phone that was damaged. Then I read one that indicated it may be a software issue. I decided to do a backup of my phone on my MacBook, dump the phone and do a complete restore. Problem solved. I know a restore is always a nervous issues but nonetheless, create a full backup and then try doing the restore. Worked for me. Phone is charging as normal in my wall plug currently using the factory supplied cord and plug. I don't even mess around with that aftermarket stuff.

Sep 8, 2016 3:00 PM in response to CPhillips84by Tatuanui,I started to have this problem recently too. Restarting the phone works which would tend to indicate its's a software issue. I haven't upgraded to the latest version yet (still on 9.3.4). Restoring your phone seems to work for some people but part of the process of restoring is to restart the phone which may be the actual fix (not restoring). Try just restarting first.
