Apple MusicDid you install anti virus software?
Have you checked for OS X updates lately?
Click your Apple top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click About this Mac
Make sure the Overview tab is selected then click Software Update.
Your Mac may restart several times during the update process. That’s ok.

today, I hadn't used it at all, took it to a coffee shop, took it out of its case and it was burning up and wouldn't turn on.
It would appear that you did not turn the MBP off.
should I take it in and get it replaced?
If you purchased the MBP from Apple and are within 14 days of the date of purchase, you can return it for an exchange or a refund. Otherwise it will be repaired as necessary.
Download and post an Etrecheck report:
Run an Apple Hardware Test:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
Note that an error free AHT is not conclusive.
Install a temperature/fan speed monitoring application:
Open Activity Monitor and set it to ALL PROCESSES and set CPU to display values from high to low.
When the MBP gets hot, post images of both for inspection.
Ciao.
