Should I shut down my iPhone 6, say at night?

I don't think there is a total official reply. Personally? I let my iPad simply go to sleep and charge every night. That said, I will occasionally power it down when it charges. ANd I personally am a big fan of shutting computers off, just to let them reboot fresh on a regular basis.
One reason I can think to turn your phone off at night....peace and quiet. My phone is not an iPhone but I power it down every night to make the battery charges last longer and to avoid those middle of the night weather or other alerts.
As Skydiver119 states, it's a personal preference. There is no "right" or "wrong" answer.
From the reading I've done, I believe Steve Jobs was a fan of eliminating an on/off switch from the iPhone (not offering it even in the initial model).
Personally, I turn mine off every night.
There's no need to shut down your iPhone daily.
If your iPhone starts acting oddly and you can't figure out a cause, then you can do a restart or a force restart as explained here:
To add one more example: I do not have a land line, plus my phone also serves as my alarm clock. I almost never turn it off overnight. I do turn it off in theaters, sometimes when out to dinner, and in other circumstances when having a phone go off would be inappropriate.
As for the effect on the device, no, I really don't believe it matters.

Do whatever you want. it doesn't matter.
Your choice. Personally, I never turn off my iPhone. My 6 has been on continuously for a year and a half now since I upgraded to It. It's plugged in overnight. Same thing for my previous iPhones and my iPads and MacBook Pro are also never powered off (they just sleep when idle). With a few exceptions, my MacBook Pro has been on for 7 years now (late model 2008) And my iPad Air 2 for the last 2 years.
There is one advantage to not turning it off at night so far not mentioned. If you have iCloud back enabled, your phone plugged in, connected to WiFi and with the screen locked, your phone will back itself up every night. That way, should you ever lose your phone or if it's suddenly damaged beyond recovery, you will have lost very little data.
Like some other people in this thread, I don't have a landline and my iPhone has been my sole alarm clock for years. The last time I remember turning mine off was when my brother did something stupid (It's really not that hard to fill out the paperwork to bring a used car across the border ahead of time) and got us detained at the U.S./Canadian border. They took a very dim view of my phone being turned on.
