How does two-step work with Apple TV? I can't get the login to work.

I have my password, I receive the key, but how do I use it? Enter the key instead of the password? Enter password+key, or password, key?

I've used an Apple TV 3 and an Apple TV 4 with Apple's older two-step verification and the Apple TV 4 with Apple's newer two-factor authentication. I did not have to do anything special other than log-in with my Apple ID on the Apple TVs.

The OP wasn't clear about whether he was using the older two-step verification or the newer two-factor authentication despite the wording of the question.

If using the older two-step verification I suggest taking the time to upgrade to the newer two-factor authentication if all devices qualify.

If the person wants to stick to the older two-step verification this web page has instructions on how to add trusted devices. Ignore the fact that the title of the article says two-factor authentication it is about two-step verification.

In the case of two-factor authentication, if you need to append the verification code to the password this is how you do it. Say your password is "password" and your verification code is "123456" you would append it like this "password123456" and use that as your password when logging in.

Hi Diana, to answer your question more directly, my Apple TV 3 was already logged in to my iCloud account when I enable the older two-step verification so it was already considered a "trust device" as far as my account was concerned.

When I replaced the Apple TV 3 with an Apple TV 4 I don't recall having to do anything special, I just logged in to my iCloud account without any issue. I did not have to generate an app-specific password and I did not have to append any verification codes to the password. It was a while ago so I can't remember if any other verification was required using one of my other devices.

When I changed from the older two-step verification to the newer two-factor authentication the Apple TV 4 was again already a trusted device in my account so there were no issues there either.
