Q: The smoothest way to work

Hallo I’m new with fcpx and need some suggestions on how to plan my work. I record many video tutorials every day and then I edit them and upload on vimeo.

My editing is very easy since I only need to:

- sync video with an mp3 audio (I separately record video and audio)

- introduce them on the timeline

- add a short intro (my logo) and a short ending video (copyright and url of my site) for every video

- export

Another very important point is that I need to save all my projects since after some times I may need to change something on them. As you may notice my editing is very easy, but I need to do the same for hundreds of videos so my way of working should be as smooth as possible.

How can I work? Do I need to create a new project for every video? Or would it be better to edit many videos in the same project and then export one at a time using the range tool? How can I quickly add the intro and ending videos to the main videos?

Thank you for your help!!!

    I would…

create an Intro and Outro clip/sequence, put that into a folder called 'Standards'

if you need overlapping sound (L-cut), add a placeholder…

    synch all clips

    … then…

    create new project

apply Intro (in case of L-cut: shift-S and shorten placeholder)

    put/edit synched clip into project

    apply Outro

    share

    repeat from 'New Project'…

(you can start editing while export... just to mention that)

esp. for reusing/reediting older proejcts, a 'convoluted timeline' containing several 'sub projects' is a nightmare for searching... give each project a smart name, done.

Another question: which is the best way to use the 'Standard' folder that you suggested to create (and put the intro and outro)? Should I use as a favourite one in fcpx? I'm looking for the easiest way to control all the media on the browser. Since the 'Standard' folder media are repeated for any project while the other videos/audios are variable, how can I organize them on the browser?

    Thank you again!

depends on how yo organize your other stuff:

if every new show has it own Event, I would create a 'standards'-Event...

so, in the left overview, you have a list of your shows and (call it " standards', with a leading blank) on top of list you Event containing stuff for all shows.

if you put all material into one Event (to have an easier search etc), you could create a folder inside that Event .:.

    --- like that .....

for sure you could create a smartfolder too, listing all material fullfilling some criteria, e.g. having a 'standard' in the notes filed .... in case, your standards grow (logo bug, background graphics, sounds, ...)
