Q: Do iPhone-edited photos import to Mac Photos or not?

I've edited hundreds of photos while on vacation from my iPhone. I have since turned off iCloud photo streaming and only recently decided to delete all photos from my iPhone since I was syncing them through iTunes as well as importing them to Photos.

iTunes sync seemed to be leaving some duplicates on my phone (or Mac, or both).

Now I learn Photos does not import the edited versions of iPhone photos?

1. Is that correct, and if so is there a way to "Find" edited photos on the Mac's Photos?

2. Is there a way to retrieve 'lost' edited photos from my Time Machine backups (that hopefully contain my iPhone backups from iTunes)?

Thank you

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), 16gb RAM / 1tb int'l - 1tb ext'l

1 - yes that is correct - MyPhotoStream sends the initial un-edited photos -  to finding them look in your recently deleted photos

2 - no Time Machine does not backup your IOS devices - if you do an iTunes backup to yoru Mac that backup will be saved on TM- if you have iCloud Backup on then there is a backup on iCloud  -- How to back up your devices using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support

And if you both sync using iTunes and import the same photos you will have duplicates - you should only import them once using one method\

If you want everything you do on your IOS devices to be done on your Mac then iCloud Photo Library is the solution - with it all libraries are kept in sync and all changes (additions, deletions or edits) made on any device are made on all devices

That's disappointing. I don't have the means to pay for the storage I'd need in iCloud. Added to that, I hate the thought of accidentally deleting photos on every device due to one faulty button push on just one of those devices.

So when on vacation, during any down time I like to go through the recent photos taken on my iPhone and edit them - crop, filter, etc - in the iPhone's iOS Photos app.

That is now a waste of my time, correct? - since those edits will be lost during import to Photos in the iMac or through iTunes sync to Photos on the iMac (the latter of which I don't think works anyway; I don't recall seeing photos from my iPhone sync UP to the Mac through iTunes - I've always had to manually import them to OS X Photos/iPhoto).

In the end then, the Photos software in the Mac is the ONLY place I can edit my pictures if I want those edits to 'stick'?

    Thanks

    No - as posted

If you use iCloud Photo Library then all edits done on any device will be done on all devices - You get 5GB free and 50 GB is only a Dollar per month - 200 GB only $36.00 per year - less than a single Starbucks tall coffee per month

There is an easy way to do it - you choose not to use it

And as to deletions - not really an issue for most people and even if you can not remember to only delete things you really want gone they go to the recently deleted album for 30 days giving you lots of time to remember and change yoru mind
