When I look in storage (under about this mac) it says 14.88GB is free of 499.05GB (this says its the macintosh HD).

although there are a lot of space taken by movies (thinking its in the photo library) It wasn't a problem in the past - I was working on the photo project maybe three weeks ago or a month ago and didn't have any issues opening it up before.

I did do software updates since so wonder if it has to do with that?

Do you think if I make more space I will have more chance of getting access again. (also why would it be searching icloud when the images should all be in photos?

thanks for your help with this!

I also just noticed that when I am looking at some of my photos in the photo library there is a little circle on the bottom right and it either has an exclamation point in it or some have the circle partly filled white etc.. maybe they are not downloading.

You need a min of 10 GB of free space so 14.88 is marginally OK - if you are downloading a lot of large original photos you may be actually running out of space

and it may be a time out issue

Is there a reason you are 4 updates behind? - while I am not aware of this being a fix there are many, many bug fixes and lots of new features in the latest version (OS X 10.11.4 and Photos 1.5) - simply updating to the current version may reslove yur issues

hmm not sure why its not up to date. I will download it now and see if that helps at all.

do you by any chance have recommendations of how best to store excess images or videos to avoid taking up too much storage on the computer? I have icloud but I also have a apple tower where I back up my computer. I guess I could simply copy some photos or videos to the external HD so it doesn't take it up on the computer. to do so what is the simplest way to move them from the photo library to the HD ? just draggin it ? and then deleting them from the library?

perhaps best to do this for photos that I don't look at or require?

thanks, I'll let you know if the update makes a difference too

hey there,

I have updated the system and have also eliminated some files so now I have 213 GB free of the 500 GB. I have tried opening the photo project and it does that same 'downloading photos from icloud photo library' and is taking a long time (very slow - probably indicative of my slow connection too). then another error but this time it says "The selected photos cannot be accessed because an error occurred while downloading one or more photos for a print project. Please try again later."

so frustrating... not sure what I can do...in the past in never took time to open up it simply opened and I could work on it?
