With apps common to iphone iPad and also listed in apps in iTunes how do you delete them so they will not show up again?  Especially in regards to synching?

You don't have to delete them from iTunes. You have to deselect them before you sync. Launch iTunes and select your device at the top. Click on the apps tab. The list of apps will appear. Click on Remove for any apps that you do not want to sync to that particular device, but that are already on the device. Then click on Apply in the lower right corner. iTunes will remember the sync settings for each individual device that you sync from the same library.

Just to clarify a bit further, the method that elcpu posted will delete content from your devices, but if that content is in your iTunes library, it will sync back to the devices unless you unsync them like I explained in my first post.

If for some reason you want to delete them from your iTunes library, launch iTunes, click on the Apps icon at the top. Right click on the app or apps that you want to delete and you will be given the option to delete the apps. You can follow the other prompts from there.

Hi and Thanks for helping.  I have 461 apps on my iPhone, my wife went nuts. I want to totally delete them off all my devices and off the My Apps in iTunes also.   I have been going to My Apps which I think should have all the apps between my iPhone and iPad.  They should all be listed in this 1 place if I correct.    What I have done is "command" click on the app  I do not want, it highlights in blue.  Then per message displayed I have been putting them into the trash.  Then I have synched phone and they still show up.    I have tried shutting down phone and then rebooting it up to see if that would delete app, kind of like a restart for new software.  But no it is still there.  I have maybe 20 folders set up.  And some of the apps I really like and want to save, but many are not what I expected.  And make it difficult tio locate them.  I do search for them, but sometimes name is different than application or what they do.

Before I tried to start to do this I synched both devices.  And backed them up to cloud and my computer.  Then I open iTunes, go to My Apps and try to delete them.  Command and click, the move to trash.  What am I doing incorrectly?  I have asked power mac users how to do this and I have gotten very odd answers.  Even they admit people download to many app, PLEASE tell that to my wife!!

Have you deleted them off of the phone after you delete them in iTunes on up your computer? Delete them off of the phone, then delete them from iTunes, then sync again.

I Am not sitting by my Mac right now, but I thought it was a right click to bring up the contextual menu, not Command Click.

Followed your advise. Went to phone and deleted apps individually.  I kept a list.  then went to iTunes and opened Apps specific to device and deleted them, moved them to trash.  Then I synched again to see results. The apps were no longer on the phone.  I deleted over 200 apps.  Thank you for your help.  One thing I did notice is that unless you move deleted apps in iTunes to the TRASH, they still are there.  So visually you will still see them.  But they are not on any of your devices.  Thank you all very much.  A friends child put over 500 apps on their phone.  I will now help them with your advise.  Apple should have some idea as to dead or never used apps in their servers.  Maybe they could work on a better easier method.  Again Thanks
