Q: Keynote table size not behaving - can't directly input px

I have inserted a table onto a slide, and it's doing two unexpected things:

1. It won't allow me to directly input a table width in pixels - as soon as I enter a value and enter it, it flips back to the original value. The only way I can change the table size is with the up/down arrows, basically moving it one pixel at a time.

2. When I add an additional column, rather than squeeze it into the table width by adjusting the sizes of the existing columns, it blows the table out off the slide area and I have to manually resize the table to accommodate.

I've looked through all the settings for the table and just can't find why it's behaving this way, which is different than other tables I've created in the past.

    1. You are right. Selecting the Table tab, and reducing the values in Row and Column will shrink your table, but table resizing isn't supposed to work this way.
    2. Control-click, or two-finger tap the alphabetic table heading, and select Add Column After from that menu. The new column is added in place, and the other columns shrink and march left to accommodate the new column, while the table itself does not move.

Thanks for the response, Viking. Some clarifications:

    1. I am selecting the table as a whole (not just one column or cell), and then going to the Arrange tab to input width and height in pixels, which affects the table as a whole. It does affect the table size if I just click the arrows up and down, but will not let me input exact pixel dimensions for some reason.

    2. Nope. Whether I click the drop down arrow or control-click the alphabetized column heading, new columns (or rows for that matter) get added and push the table width off the page to the right each time. This is not normal behaviour, and I can't figure out what is causing it.

Tested item 2 before I originally responded, though using default table of 4 columns and 5 rows. When I click on column D, and request Add column before, or after, it shrinks the column widths and inserts the new column without altering the table size. Just repeated my previous test and it worked the same way.

Oh yeah, I know it works, I've seen it many times before. What I can't figure out, is why it's not working this time. Where's the setting that determines this behaviour? I've looked (and toggled) every option I can find, and I'm at a loss. Something is causing it.

This was the default launch of Keynote v6.6.2. I have not changed any Preferences from which it defaults. Remote panel is disabled. On the table tab, uncheck Resize rows to fit cell contents. When checked, I just discovered that adding a column jumps off the right edge of the page.

    Ahhhhh!! (*to himself with relief*)

That nailed it! Thank you Viking, can't believe I missed that one in my experiments. I think I overlooked it as I was troubled with columns, and this says for rows. Appreciate your diligence and help!
