Q: I cannot sync my ipad to laptop as an unknown error (-54) keeps appearing

I am unable to sync my new i pad to my laptop as it keeps coming up with the answer - "an unknown error occurred (-54)". The laptop and i pad are fully charged and I have also unplugged the i pad and plugged in again to my laptop but to no avail.
