Import XAVC-S Video to iPad Pro 9.7

Hi

I'm about to purchase a Sony A5100 with the intention of shooting high resolution video in XAVC-S format.

I've been seeing in online forums that the iPad Pro can't handle import of larger files (more than 15 sec or so), despite being promoted as a 4 x 4K video editing machine!

Apparently the same problem persists when using the Lighting to USB Camera adapter. It has been suggested that the NEW lighting to USB3 adapter might work as it supports higher transfer (4K) rates, BUT I just discovered it's only the 12.9' Pro that actually has USB3.0?! The 9.7 apparently has USB2.0.

This is really frastrating given the mis-marketing. What I'd like to do is simple; Shoot High Res video on my camera and edit it on my iPad Pro 9.7 without the need to import to a mac first.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I came across your question and I’m not sure if it really got answered, I know it’s been like a year since you asked so I’m sure you’ve gotten it figured out by now but just in case, in response to your question about an editing app other than iMovie, I got started with iMovie and grew out of it pretty quickly yet was a little intimidated by premiere pro which you can only get on a laptop and I had an iPad Pro, I found an app called lumafusion, it’s the closest thing I’ve found to premiere in regards to editing videos professionally, it’s a nice middle ground between iMovie and premiere it’s 20 bucks but well worth it, hope this helps!
