    If you mean Mac OS X malware, use MalwareBytes. If you're concerned about Windows malware, use ClamXav.

    Many companies sell scanners and it is like selling snow shovels to people in Florida.  98% of what they do is scan for Windows viruses. The other 2% you can use free software such as Malwarebytes.  Many virus scanners run all the time and can slow down your computer and interfere with its functioning.  With Macs you are better off using your own intelligence as the frontline for precautionary action by not downloading software from unknown sources.  If you do get see an issue only then do you run software to address the specific problem.
