Q: I can access the content stored on my computer but not Netflix or Sky or any other programmes - any ideas what I need to do?  Many thanks

I can access content stored on my computer and the WiFi in the house is working - but we cannot access Netflix, Sky News, or any of the other options normally available to us.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

Until recently (five days ago), we had television options when we turned the TV on - alongside the computer options (our music, our films etc), there were options to watch Netflix, TED Talks, Sky News, and so on.  Our WiFi went down for a while.  We rebooted everything, and now we have WiFi in the house.  The Apple TV is receiving the signal, as we can see our photos and have access to our films and our music through the screen of the TV (the computer and modem are in different rooms) - but it will not let us access anything else.  Hence, no NETFLIX.  I have children.  This is becoming a serious issue!!  I am not very technical, but have managed to check the network options.  This says that I have no network connection - but everything else in the house seems to be working....  Am I making sense?  Am I being a complete biff?  Any help gratefully received!

You say TV, but I assume you're referring to an Apple TV connected to the TV set. Please identify the ATV version, Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

Did you make any changes in your network configuration to fix the WiFi problem?

Do the network options say you have no network connection, or no internet connection?

If you have no network connection, try this. I assume you're connecting via WiFi. So, in network settings, you need to select WiFi and select your network from the list, then enter the network password. If that's not possible, you may have WiFi interference, see Potential sources of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interference - Apple Support . I realize this is complicated, but it may be the reason your WiFi went down. One of your neighbors may have gotten a new router that's interfering with yours. Also, be sure there are no wireless phones near the router or the ATV.

If you have no internet connection, be sure your other devices can access the internet. Make sure your ATV network settings have IP and DNS set to automatic. It wouldn't hurt to restart router and modem again.

    Clembak,

If you could post images of what you are seeing, or at least descriptions of exactly what shows up on the screen, that might help in nailing down what your issue is. From your description, I'm guessing you are only seeing the Computers and Settings icons, which would mean that even if you are connected to the WiFi network, the ATV can't access the Internet. But I'm not sure that is what you are describing. If that's the case, let everyone know what shows up under Settings -> General -> Network.

Just a further thought. Did you replace the router to get WiFi working again? If you can access the router settings, you may need to repeat some steps that you had to do on the previous router.

With many thanks for your time and advice - I think our problem is geographical, as I turned it on this morning in order to follow all your advice, and everything was back to normal.  I have printed off your words of technical wisdom though, as I KNOW that this will happen again!  Wishing all you kind, wise and helpful people a lovely day, wherever you may be.
