Very upset that I seem unable to highlight a folder with a color

So, in El Capitan, instead of being able to color an entire folder--such as IRS--red, now we just have little tabs? That's utterly useless to me.

It has to be one of the most ill-informed business/technology decisions of all time to remove a capacity the customer once enjoyed to force them to utilize an inferior feature. You never take away what the customer already has!

As many have noted in their posts, this costs many of us years of work. I feel as if I should be able to demand payment from Apple for that. I didn't see any disclosures to indicate such [idiotic] changes.

If you want to add something, then add a tab feature. Why substitute that for a feature that works perfectly for some uses?

The worst thing about updates is that it seems as if utterly unskilled techies just think up new things to add without ever considering customer loyalty or the painstaking building of systems that will then be degraded.

Stupid, stupid approach.

You're not speaking to Apple. We're just Apple users like you are, and this is a user-to-user support forum. We have no say or control over business decisions Apple makes, no matter what they're about, including features of each successive operating system they release. If you have comments or a rant or a question or anything of the like for Apple, please, leave them feedback. They won't respond, but if enough people all send feedback in about the same issue, a fix may appear in a future update or upgrade. Who knows.

If you want colored folders back look at these third party apps

Xtra Finder

There were changes made in OS X El Capitán System Integrity Protection that makes this app a problem, now, in OS X El Capitán, but the developer has supplied a workaround to get this work.

Total Finder

The same issue with this app. If you go to the Support section of the website, this developer has also posted a workaround solution to get this to work under OS 10.11 El Capitán.

Yes, Please post your comments to the Feedback link pinkstones gave you.

Another approach is to Google "OS X Icons" and find some free colored folder icons, then just replace your IRS folder's icon with the Red one of your choosing.

Once you have your icon.

Select the Red icon you want

Finder -> File -> Get Info -> Click on the icon in the Get Info dialog -> Command-C

Then select the destination folder

Finder -> File -> Get Info -> Click on the icon in the Get Info dialog -> Command-V

Close your Get Info dialog boxes
