Q: I cannot longer color calibrate my 10 year Apple Cinema Display monitor as it is no longer compatible with my iMac Thunderbolt.  How can I color calibrate the Apple Cinema Display?

I currently own an iMac OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.4 27-inch monitor (2 1/2 years old) with Thunderbolt technology.  I also have an Cinema Display Monitor that has older technology.  Previously when the technology was the same for both the Apple Display and my previous iMac I was able to color calibrate both the Apple Cinema and my iMac but that is no longer the case. I know that there is a way to color calibrate the Apple Cinema with older technology when the iMac has Thunderbolt  technology but can't remember what the steps are.  The colors on the Apple Cinema are out of whack and too bright.  Can someone help?  I would appreciate any assistance you can provide.  Thank you.

Henriette

PS:  The color calibration device I own is a gretagmacbeth eye-one display2.

    Hello henriettefromnovato,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I see you'd like to calibrate the color of your Cinema Display.  You can calibrate your display by following the steps in the link below.

OS X Yosemite: Calibrate your display

If you're unable to do this, then please be more specific to what is happening when you try to calibrate the display.

    Have a good one.

What event immediately preceded the onset of your issue? Upgrade to El Capitan? If yes, is that the ONLY change?

I did not check whether there is any difference in content of the articles, but this one at least is titled with El Cap > OS X El Capitan: Calibrate your display

The problem of my not being able to color calibrate the Apple Cinema Display monitor occurred long before upgrading to El Capitan (actually, several versions before).  There is an update though.  After going into preferences, the brightness slider would appear for the iMac (Thunderbolt technology) but not for the Apple Cinema Display.  What I discovered was that the brightness slider in the preferences window for the ACD was hidden behind the iProfilerD2 Lion Edition Window that was displayed on the ACD.  After discovering this I was able to calibrate the ACD monitor.  What threw me off was the fact that the brightness slider for the iMac would appear but I wouldn’t see the brightness slider for the ACD (as it was hidden).

Thank you so much for taking the time to offer suggestions to help solve this problem.  I sincerely appreciate your help and suggestions.
