AirDrop not available on El Capitan
I have upgraded to El Capitan but AirDrop is not in the Finder menu, nor can I find it when searching for it

I don't think it was ever in the Menu. It should be in the Sidebar, but it can be removed by the user.
Open Finder Preferences, Sidebar tab and check the box to show AirDrop in the Sidebar.
Thank you Barney
My mistake, I meant the Sidebar, not the Menu. I've checked in Preferences too and it is not there.
On my old Mac AirDrop is in the Sidebar under 'All my Files' but nothing here.
It should be right here:
If it is not there, make sure both WiFi and Bluetooth hardware is available. If either states that the hardware is not installed, try an SMC reset:

Getting to work properly and consistently is another issue altogether 😉
Sorry, no idea, then.
