Q: ABC and Disney Apps NOT WORKING, along with a few others

My Disney and ABC apps aren't working (Watch ABC, FreeForm, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, etc.) and I have tried so many things, including a full factory reset which is a pain by itself. It keeps giving me an error.

The second issue I am having is that with some of my apps its saying I don't have access through my provider when I know for a fact I do. I go to my provider and double check that I didn't miss something and low and behold there it is, the thing I "don't subscribe to" and its telling me I don't have access.

On my 2 older Apple TVs I keep getting a strange error message about checking the parental controls, which is something we have never messed with, when we are trying to watch something on a channel where it shouldn't be an issue (like Disney).

I am at my wits end!! Help please!

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Google has recently announced that it will no longer support its app for older versions of Apple TVs and iOS devices.

The only way out for you is to use a mobile version of YouTube.

    More info here:

You can also try to restore your Apple TV. You can find more information here. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202118

Please identify the versions of your Apple TVs, see Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

What error are you getting from the ATV 3 when you access those services?

Regarding "I don't have access", I'm not clear whether your provider's site says you do or do not have access. Either way, this is something you need to take up with the provider. They may have help pages or groups that may have clues. You provider may have changed the rules recently. Since you've done a full factory reset, you must have re-established your credentials for those services. Did that go OK? Or is that where you're stuck?

On your older ATVs, please check the access control settings. They may have been changed by a software update.

Its actually an ATV 4, we only got it a few months ago and the software is up to date. I try to log in with my DirectTV login information and it either gives me an "Internal server error" message or it says we don't have access. Once in a while it will give me an error message that says "Authentication initialization failed". We borrowed my brother-in-law's Cox Cable login to see if that would make a difference and in some cases it did, like for ABC. So I really have no idea what to now. I don't want to do another full factory reset because not only does it take forever but it didn't really do anything to help the situation.

On ATV 4, the apps are written by the service providers, each one different. Since your ATV software is up to date, have you checked the provider apps for updates? You can do this in the TV app store under Purchased. Updating the apps may be enough to do it.

Otherwise, you may need to uninstall them and reinstall them. That may be the only way to get a clean setup. Obviously, you can try them one by one. Those messages definitely say their servers are not accepting your credentials. Did these app ever work?

If all else fails, you may need to get DirectTV to update their database so the other services can see that you are OK.

You may find this https://forums.att.com/t5/Error-Messages/Unable-to-activate-shows-on-Apple-TV-bc -of-Directv-activation/td-p/4797060 informative. Apparently your provider has changed without telling you.
