Q: Rebuilding thumbnails FCP 7

I have lost a bunch of thumbnails in a project, just have little red windows. What is the procedure on this? I've done it in the past, but can't remember exactly.

Thanks

If you go to menu Final Cut Pro > System Settings and look at the Scratch Disks Tab, you will see where the cache thumbnail files are located:

Quit FCP, delete the files and restart FCP.

So I've tried this but I'm still missing many thumbnails. Any other thoughts?

    Thanks.

Has the media itself for the clip(s) gone off-line? You might be seeing render files in the canvas even if the file itself is off-line.

If you park the playhead on one of these problematic clips in the timeline and type the F key to match frame to the source monitor, does the video appear there?

If the source files are OK you might try trashing your preferences:

When FCP begins to act in an unexpected way, the usual first step is to trash the FCP Preferences.

Download Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (free) and it will do all the heavy lifting for you:

    https://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/

Run it, and the next time you launch FCP your preference will be reset to default settings.

Well that was the answer. I spent a lot of time reconnecting and it should be ok. Thank you.

But there's a new wrinkle the is perhaps a result of trashing the preferences. The titles, made in Boris, are not stationary and can't be moved around the frame. This has never happened before.

And by the way, you've helped me on other occasions. Thanks for them too.

I am not sure what this means:

If you mean you can't move the titles to new positions by clicking and dragging them in the Canvas Window, make sure it is set to display Image + Wireframe.
