Macbook Pro Overheating

I recently bought a Macbook Pro (early 2015 version), not even two weeks ago. I haven't even installed that many programs, just Microsoft Office and that's it. The major issue I'm already having with my new mac is overheating. It gets really really hot when the only thing I'm doing is Facebook or simple web search, NOT play games or stream videos. I am getting very disappointed because my computer is still very new and showing this kind of problem already. Can I fix this problem by myself or should I take it to an Apple store?

When hot open Activity Monitor (it is in Utilities folder in Applications) and click on CPU tab. Make sure that under View, All Processes is checked.

What is using CPU? Some sites use Flash for video and that puts a high load on CPU and raises temperature

Install a temp and fan speed monitoring app like iStat or Mac Fan Control to see if fan is operating correctly and to see how high temps are.

Current MacBook Pros have their fans positioned to use the hinge area of the case as the cooling air intake and exhaust. Is that area clear and not blocked by a pillow, blanket, or things on your workstartion?

If how you position the computer during use proves not to be the issue, I would start by taking it to the Apple store for their evaluation. Your computer is only weeks old and you have warranty protection.

If you have a concern about temperature and cooling on the Mac notebooks, you may find the information outlined in the following articles helpful:

Install a temperature and fan speed monitoring app such as Macs Fan Control or iStat Menus 5

or smcFanControl

If you are concerned about the temperature, I suggest that you take the MBP to an Apple store Genius Bar.

The evaluation will be free.
