Q: Ipod touch sound works using the aux cord but not when using headphones

I have an old iPod touch, 3rd gen I believe. I leant it to my younger sisters for a couple of years and now that I got it back, I would like to use it with headphones. However, for some reason, I can hear the music perfectly when using the aux cord in my car but when using headphones, I just hear the background music (so no lyrics). I have tried blowing in it, twisting the ear phones around and using many pairs, resetting, ect. With no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions? Why would it work with the aux but not headphones? Thanks in advance

iPod touch, iOS 9

    - First have you tried another pair of earphones/verified that they work with another similar device.

    - Also are the headphones designed for an iPod or similar device? Maybe they require more power than the iPod can output.

    - Otherwise that symptom usually means a poor electrical connection between the headphone jack and headphone plug. Different tolerances/surface conditions of the plug that work and the headphone plug may cause the problem. Using an electrical contact cleaner n plug and jack may help

Yes, I have tried the headphones in two other devices.

Yes, one pair came with my phone so I'm sure there is enough power and another pair was apple

Where would I find contact cleaner?

    Thanks for your reply
