May 13, 2016 11:51 AM in response to kanadoitby Carolyn Samit,Safari preferences may be corrupted...
Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the trash.
Relaunch Safari then try open Safari / Preferences.

I type in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist and got The folder "com,apple.Safari.plist" can't be opened because you don't have permission to see it's contents. I am the administrator but i must also say that my computer skill level is more like press enter and see what happens.

May 15, 2016 10:53 AM in response to Eric Rootby kanadoit,Thanks I appreciate all the help everyone has given me but after reading Linc Davis post I should take it to someone who knows what they are doing. I think I would create more problems trying it on my own based on my computer knowledge level. Again thanks

-
May 15, 2016 3:42 PM in response to Carolyn Samitby kanadoit,Yes. I did Disk Utility.app 20.0 First Aid Repair Disk Permissions and after Permission repair complete I clicked on Verify Disk
and the volume 20.0 appears to be OK was the response. When I try to open Safari preferences Safari quits unexpectedly also.
