PC not connecting to AirPort Extreme

I have a windows 7 dell latitude D600 that connects to wifi networks just fine. I think the wifi card is like b/g/n.

I have an Airport Extreme 6th Gen AC that sends out wifi just fine to everything I own.

The PC sees the network, I click on it and enter the correct password, it thinks for a while and FAILS!

I have researched this problem, and it is not the PC, I believe it is the AirPort.

If you take a look at the specifications of the D600, you will see that it is wireless "b" which requires older WEP security settings.

Unfortunately, the newer AirPort routers dropped WEP about 3-4 years ago because it is no longer secure, and easily cracked with free tools available over the Internet.


As a test, turn off the wireless security on the AirPort router and see if the Dell can connect that way. If it can.....then you know that the Dell is not compatible with the higher levels of security that the Airports and other newer routers are using.


Not recommending that you do this, but you could try lowering the security on the AirPort down to WPA/WPA2.....but I don't know whether the Dell will connect that way or not. It won't if it is limited to WEP levels of security.


Best to keep the security at recommended levels and try a USB wireless adapter to see if that will work with the Dell.

Apple seems to do some things differently with dual band. Even though the security is off, the PC may not be able to connect to simultaneous dual band wireless signal.


Did you try setting up separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks with the security off? If yes, we're at the end of the road. There's nothing else that can be done on the AirPort that might allow the PC to connect using wireless.
