Are Podcasts supposed to show up under the "On My Device" section of iTunes?
If so, then how do I make it show up there? Thanks.

when I select an external device (phone, pad or pod), there is a list at lower left of window with the subheading 'on my device'

Yes, I already know where the "On My Device" section is located.
I'm simply asking if "Podcasts" are supposed to be showing inside the "On My Device" section.
podcasts are on the list on my device
check the summary and podcast subheadings in the top selections to make sure you're requesting that podcasts are synced to the device

Podcasts are not "synced" because I'm downloading them only using the device's Podcasts App. However, thinking this might be the root cause of the issue, I checked the "Sync" box and applied the changes. I synced the device several times, unplugged it, and synced it again.
Despite my efforts, "Podcasts" were still NOT showing under the "On My Device" section.
After looking more closely, it turns out that Podcasts stopped downloading to my device and the older ones had already deleted themselves, so this is the root problem: no Podcast files to show (combined with Podcast syncing disabled). In other words, "Podcasts" were not showing up in that section since there were no Podcast files on the device in the first place BUT also because syncing was turned OFF. I don't understand why syncing needs to be enabled when I'm simply wanting to see the files already on the device... that should have nothing to do with how the files are getting onto the device.
