You may need to do a full software restore, see Restore your Apple TV through iTunes - Apple Support

Note that this will be a pretty big download, so it may take a while.

    3. On the back of your Apple TV (4th generation), plug in a USB-C cable. For Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation), use a Micro-USB cable. Use the correct cable for your model, and never plug a lightning to USB cable into your Apple TV.

So I need to buy the USB-C cable in order to actually get the brand new 4th generation Apple TV really up and running? Is that a correct answer?

I'm sorry. Your subject said Apple TV 2. Some owners of these older units have had them hang up as you describe, and essentially restoring is a last ditch attempt to get them working again.

You should try another post with the correct subject, and a much clearer discription of your problem. Then someone might be able to assist you.

    Good luck!

Don't waste your time with a new unit.  Either return the defective unit for a replacement at point of purchase, or take it to an Apple Store and have them fix or replace it on the spot.

You should not need to purchase a new cable to get a brand new item working...

Or waste time reposting the problem description...

In order to get the device to service it's 80 km ride in the mountains. So I'm still hoping someone has a solution how to update or Apple folks will check out how their servers are running, before I'm gonna take that specific drive Thanks for the advice Vinceassociate!

If you are on WiFi try connecting via Ethernet.

You can also try restoring directly (settings - system - reset)
