Q: Migrating Aperture to Capture One Pro 9?
I still love Aperture 3. And I do not want to leave. But I thought I better before it becomes incompatible with some future OS upgrade. I checked out Lightroom and Capture One Pro 9. The later looks close to Aperture. And you can import managed or referenced Aperture libraries. I have done some very small ones (<200 images) and it works great transfering the orginals, versions, metadata.
But here is the problem. My main Aperture libraries are about 10K - 40K images each. When I try to import any of those they all import but then the Capture One Pro ( from here call C1) crashes during the preview generation.
I have tried splitting up the libraries into 2-5K images. Still crashes. I have used Aperture to rebuild the library database, I have tried both managed and referenced libraries, I have searched and deleted any "offline" files.
I know this is an Aperture support community but we are all going to have to leave aperture at some point. I am guessing that a lot of you have made the jump and that many of you have successufly jumped to C1.
For those of you who have done this did you also have a problem like mine and how did you fix it.
Thanks
iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Have you tested if Aperture can render previews? You may have an image file in your library that is corrupted and cannot be processed.
Try by exporting a test library from Aperture, then delete all Previews from that library, and let Aperture generate new preview. Can Aperture render the previews? To delete the Aperture previews use the "Photos" menu in Aperture.
If yes, try again the migration.
I have not yet tried the migration, but Aperture can also crash when rendering previews. Perhaps you can isolate the problem in Aperture.
