activate Iphone 4s
after update phone needs to be activated and i cannot remember original user name and pw. tried to restore in itunes in recovery mode but error said device not found. any ideas?

Sorry, but without knowing the Apple ID and password that has been used to set up the phone, the Activation Lock can't be deactivated and the phone can't be used anymore. Check this article about it:
