How do I view I-6's DCIM thumbnails on PC, I get only icons?

Have loads of photos an videos on my I-6 an never before had a problem seeing all thumbnails when I connected to my PC running Win 7. Now I have "organize-view" in WX setup to show thumbnails which it does fine for all but my phone's DCIM file, where all I get is the manila folder icons, no thumbs. Helpme, helpme sez the squeaky little voice!

In addition to what elcpu has told you, depending on what settings you have for particular file extensions, you may not see thumbnails if a default program is not set for the type of files on the iPhone. While most of the time you get a .jpg or .jpeg file, sometimes you will have .png files, and Windows can be a little iffy with displaying them, depending on what other software you have on your device.

Thanks. I selected large icons but no change. Folder filenames I noticed are like "100 Apple, 101 Apple, etc., no idea if that's an issue. I clicked on "import" when a dialogue box appeared, and it did something for abou 10 min, then gave a message "not enough storage in dropbox for 31GB of imported files." Does that mean I was using the import function for the dropbox program? I had not intended to do that, so I'll go back and read what was linked regarding importing files.

You responded to Chris but it was my post that you were addressing. The file names 100 Apple, 101 etc are not an issue. iOS creates new DCIM folders on a schedule and names them that way. You cannot see that on the phone itself but you can on a Windows computer.

Regarding importing, yes somehow you pointed the import wizard to go to Dropbox. You should import to your computer's hard drive instead. Please read my link and follow the steps there on importing, they should help.

The folder files names are correct, just the way they should be. I've not had any issues with viewing the thumbnails, but what exactly are you seeing in place of the thumbnails if you click on Large Icons?

Yes, you clicked on Import to Dropbox. Try disconnecting the phone, wait for a moment and then connect again. You should get the dialog box asking you what you want to do when the phone is connected. There should be a choice to Import Using Windows. That is the choice you want to make. The only other issue is if you have your handling of photos set to always import to Dropbox.

You should get it to work fine this way, unless you have some other settings done. If so, and if you desire, I can talk you through making changes to that too.

You are welcome.... 🙂

Importing is not much better. It retains any edits you might have made with the phone Photos App. Copying ignore the edits. Also importing retains a previous import cache so you don't have to import them again and maintains the iOS "sidecars" files.

Copying should still work on your PC. Without more diagnostics it is hard to tell why your PC does not see thumbnails on DCIMs. It should.
