You could hope the owner could be able to locate the iPod Touch if that

unit is capable of accessing the internet & using FindMyMac/iPhone.

You can report the device you found to the local police;  not sure if they

could help or would help unite the product with the owner. Some info on

how to handle a found iDevice may be contained in Support topics, as:

    • If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen - Apple Support

The topics usually appear in a search:

    https://duckduckgo.com/?q=how+to+report+found+iPod+&t=ffsb

Generally most lost items are reported to a local police department, since

Apple itself does not appear to have any way to contact the owners of a

lost product directly. --These ASC discussions for the most part, are users

such as yourself, who volunteer to help others; without compensation...

So we have no special channel to contact Apple about a lost product.

Serial numbers and other identification from a product will not stay in

the topic thread, and will be removed; as a matter of support policy.

Sorry that I'm of no help in assisting you in returning the iPod Touch 5

to the owner. He/she may be able to find it, if they enabled features in

the device and in another Apple device to track it.

"Find My iPhone is the only way that you can track or locate a lost or missing device.

If Find My iPhone isn't enabled on your device before it goes missing, there is no other

Apple service that can find, track, or otherwise flag your device for you."

    Good luck in any event...!
