Q: IPad Air 2 Bluetooth fails to connect

I am trying to pair my Sony Xperia SP. mobile phone with my iPad Air 2 running IOS 9.3.1. Both pieces of hardware find each other on Bluetooth and identify the same key code. After pairing the iPad drops the connection. I have tried resetting the iPad, checked that all latest level softwRe is downloaded, reset network services. Every time I try to connect the iPad drops the connection after a short time. Conversely it will pair with an old set of headphones. The Xperia is running Bluetooth 4 while the iPad is supposedly running 4.2 although I would have expected some backward compatibility.

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 9.3.1, null

That connectivity is not a supported protocol.

What are you trying to do?

My iPad is only WiFi and does not have GPS coverage away from a WiFi signal. I fly a DJI Quadcopter iusing the iPad and an app called Autopilot which, under some circumstances needs to know where the Radio Controller is using GPS. Linking a smartphone to the iPad with Bluetooth should allow the software to use the phone's GPS. It always seems suspicious to me that all my other gadgets can talk to each other with no problems but as soon as you put Apple into the equation it fails (That is unless you buy an overpriced iPhone or iWatch) Bluetooth is not proprietary to Apple so why is there a problem with it on their kit.  I have seen lots of complaints similar to mine.

I do not work for Apple nor am I an apologist for their corporate policies.  My reaction is that they ( as well as any other corporation) can implement (or not implement) anything they wish on their proprietary hardware and/or software.

There is a feedback place on this Apple site that provides Apple with comments/suggestions. I do know they read it...what they do is, of course, up to them.
