Q: Icloud drive and photos on AirPort Extreme

I have a Macbook Air (mid 2012) and I'm running out of hard drive space (256GB) I could spend $500 and install a 1TB hard drive, but most of the space is hosting my iCloud drive and Photos library. My Macbook is the place all my photos are saved as originals. I do have a 2TB AirPort Extreme, and it would be useful for me to keep my Photos library and iCloud drive there as it's always on the internet. I've played around with Back to my mac, and while I can access my files on the AirPort, it's pretty slow, and I like the way the iCloud Drive and Photos currently function for my iPhone. Can I host my Photos Library and iCloud Drive on my airport, freeing up space on my Macbook by optimizing the Photos storage and moving the kept originals to the airport and moving my iCloud Drive to the airport?

As far as your Photos Library, you can host it on a network drive, but Apple highly recommends against it for two basic reasons: 1) performance degradation, and 2) file corruption. Ref: Apple Support - iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users.

iCloud Drive contents are stored in iCloud. There shouldn't be any iCloud files stored on your MacBook ... unless you copied or moved them from iCloud Drive to your Mac.
