Without the device you cannot find that information except on the original packaging if you still have it. The article linked by elcpu tells you how.

my house was robbed, so the original box was also stolen as well as my PC that I used to sync. So I guess there is o way then to find the number...:-(

What do you plan on doing with the IMEI? It can't be used to track the device.
If you had cellular service activated on the iPad, contact your carrier. They will have a record of the IMEI.
If you go to appleid.apple.com and sign into the Apple ID associated with your device, you may be able to find the device's IMEI and serial number.
Just scroll down to the Devices section on that website. It should say View Details. Click on that and answer your security questions. Select the iPad if it's there, and it will show you the IMEI and serial number.
