macbook pro full after reformat

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015), El Capitan version10.11.4

I have reformatted with a clean install and then downloaded all system updates. I haven't installed anything and my 120GB only has 3 GB free. I've reformatted twice now and after awhile it does the same thing. Please help, I don't know what is taking up space. I don't know if this matters but I also have 1TB of iCloud storage.

Anyone else have this problem and if so, please help

Download Omnidisksweeper or Grand Perspective -

It will show you what is taking up space on your drive

What is other and what can I do about it - Apple Support

Thank you both for your advice. I used Grand Perspective and learned that all of the large chunks of data are indeed on iCloud. So even though I've only installed that program, it looks like my MacBook Pro counts the iCloud data. Is it supposed to do that or is it isolated to the cloud?

That is working as intended - think about iCloud as a syncing device with the content mirrored on the local drive

If you want off device storage - look at Google Drive or Carbonite
