Q: Multicam clip, but with MULTIPLE audio sources at once?
I recorded a seminar using multiple audio and video sources. The audio sources include a lapel mic, a room mic, and direct playback from a computer.
I've got all the raw material imported into FCPX, and created a multicam clip, and everything is synced perfectly.
For the video, I know how to do the cutting between my different cameras.
But for the audio, I'd like to be able to play multiple audio channels at once -- namely, both the lapel mic and the audience mic. How do I do this?
I know I could set the multicam clip to audio: lapel (for example) then additionally drag the audience mic in to match it. But that means every time I do an edit, I've got to do it across both sources and have to make absolutely sure they never fall out of sync.
I guess I could drag the multicam clip into the timeline twice (one on top of the other, so two are playing simultaneously), with one video source set to none. But the same problem -- I'll always have to be very careful with edits, that the two parallel versions don't ever get moved out of sync.
Is there a better way to do this?
There are also times I may want to do some volume automation of the different channels...so whatever you suggest, please keep that in mind.
Thanks!

Audio channels in a multicam work just like in a regular clip, in the Timeline. Select a clip inside the Multicam (once edited), go to the Inspector, to the Audio section, to Channel Configuration. You have access to ALL audio channels on all clips that are part of the Multiclip. You can enable, disable, change from stereo to mono, any audio channel on any clip inside that Multicam.
In the Timeline, right-click and "Expand Audio Components". You can now trim each active channel independently for that clip inside your overall Multiclip.
Very easy.
