El capitan 10.11.4 permissions are completely messed up - basically disk util shows pages of folders/files with wrong permissions!! Please Help!!

Please help me figure out what is going on with my permissions. I will post a few screen shots -- but when verifying permissions in Disk Utility -- the list basically keeps going on forever...it looks like all the files are set wrong. It seems to be mostly ACL permissions --- I have had problem after problem the last few months.. and i need some serious help and advice. Also, I feel like i have hidden users on my computer and can't figure out how to find out whether its an actual user that is logging in, or just a default system "user" -- At one point, i opened the "get info" on a file and it had "_displaypolicyd" as a user? Also, Iooking through my directory services... things just don't look right. I can send a screenshot of that as well.

It almost seems that I am set to the group "everyone" ---

I am the only user on my computer. I set the computer up with my user account, it has admin rights, and is the only user account that I have.

I think there might be something going on with network accounts/users--- i noticed under WINS that there is a workgroup set up (that i never added) and it says that "its currently being used" --- i don't know anything about that.

I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13inch (early 2015) -- i just got this mac a year ago! Any advice would be SO APPRECIATED!!! thanks

User File Ownership - Reset see post by Linc Davis

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

Repair User Permissions

Just got a used iMac w El Capitan and went insane with permission problem. Not exactly like yours but I couldn't do any simple thing, like create a folder, rename a file, move a file, move to trash, etc., even though I am the only Admin! I really was just about to return to vendor but found a solution on another forum. What I did was right-click on the Hard drive icon showing on the desktop, then Get Info, then unlock padlock at bottom (have to use your admin and password), then I created myself as a User (Even though I was there as System I think); I did this just by clicking the + icon on bottom, then I showed up as another User (it showed my Computer name with (Me) next to it. May be a longshot but give it a try.

There are lots of other "users" in OS X, apart from yourself. Lots of system processes have their own "user", many of which start with an underscore character.

OS X uses a complex system of users and permissions to keep things safe and tidy. Unless you are having any specific problems, the chances are that everything is fine. You say you have had problems: What problems, exactly?

As said, you can't repair/verify permissions on El Capitan's Disk Utility app. Even when you could, it usually did nothing of any benefit, even if it did produce an extensive list of logged messages.

Repair permissions is not even present in Disk Utility in El Capitan.

None of the screenshots you posted seems to pertain to Disk Utility.

Unless you have specific problems, such as not being able to access files that you should be able to, just use your mac and don't worry. The system handles permissions for you.

If you can, post a screenshot that shows there are wrong permissions. I see nothing above suggesting that.
